What's Seen Is Not Always There

Hello there! I've been relatively busy these last few days with taking photos around the area as well as helping care for newborn kittens. First off, I will tell you that the kittens are just so gosh darn adorable! They were born last night in my closet. I'd post photos of them, but I don't think momma kitty is comfortable with that yet. So... once she is more comfortable and relaxed, I'll have some C-U-T-E pictures to share!!!

As for the photos I took while out with a friend recently, they can be seen below.

This photograph was edited in a way I figured would be interesting. I'm not entirely sure how I like it, mainly because I'm not used to scenery photography, but I think it's alright. The clouds were a Render action in the Photoshop Layer options list. I'm not a fan of these seriously fake looking clouds, but if put in the right photo, they could work.

In this photograph's post production, I decided not to do much because the photo doesn't need much done to it. I mainly made sure that the color and saturation was low so that it set a proper mood for a photograph taken in a cemetery. The sky hasn't been edited much this time. I would much like to find a good sky photograph to use as a mask, but it may be a while. Either way it doesn't take from the image all that much.

I'll leave you with these two recent images. My next post will be about re-editing old photos that I took in high school. I'm most excited to share these with you!

What I'm Looking For Is A Story

The first seven words that Brandon Stanton says in the opening of the video This Is The Human Behind "Humans of New York" on the Youtube channel Mashable move me. Those words are "What I'm looking for is a story".

I recently quit my job at a photography studio after working there for a month. Certainly, a month is not a long time to work somewhere and really isn't a long enough time to learn all you need to know about a profession; but it is long enough to realize if that's something you want to do. The work at that studio wasn't bad, but it was rushed and felt impersonal to me. That is not what I want to do. BUT, I do want to say that there is beautiful work that comes from there and that there are plenty of good and fond memories that are made and captured there day by day. Studio photography can be very beautiful and deep. It's just not what speaks to me.

To make short what could be long and tedious to read, I am beginning this blog to share my journey in to street photography. I'll go out at least once a week to photograph the city in which I live and throughout the week I'll share the photos with you with excerpts about the day/person/experience.

Also, I'm leaving you with a link to a video about one of my favorite photographers. (It's the link in the first sentence of this post.)
His name is Brandon Stanton and he runs the highly successful blog Humans of New York.
He's easily the most inspiring person I can think of when it comes to this kind of work.
Anyway, enjoy the video! I'm looking forward to next time.
